For my first long weekend in Brazil we decided to go to Paraty with some good friends. A very nice colonial village six hours South of Rio with great treks, beaches, waterfalls… We stayed there for three days and three nights and a an amazing time!
The hike up the 842 meters of Pedra da Gavea is pretty steep but really worth the effort. With a 360° view around Rio’s coastline it is one of the best spot around the city and a perfect day trip for a sunny weekend.
Another diving weekend a few days after the first one and yet again a very good weekend. We were in Ponta do Leste, three hours South of Rio, and we dove on the shipwreck of the Pinguino, a ship who sank not far from Ilha Grande in 1967. A very nice dive!
I hadn’t been diving for a while but the state of Rio has a few good diving spots so we took the opportunity of a relaxing weekend to go to Arraial do Cabo to dive with the turtles. A nice dive and a very fun weekend with good friends!
Portela is one of the oldest and most famous samba school in Rio and during the pre-carnaval season they often organize gathering for samba and “feijoadas”, a traditional stew based on “feijaos”, the Brazilian black beans.

Sailing in the Guanabara Bay between Rio de Janeiro and Niteroi is a great way to see these cities with a different perspective and as always with this part of Brazil, the views around there are really amazing.
